sheltie bottom hair, grooming tips

That’s a great idea! I’d never heard of doing that but it does make sense. All 3 of mine stand relatively quiet while I trim but I’m always moving the tail this way and that to get it out of the way. I just might try this method next time I trim…they’re almost due for a trim soon!
By all means, give it a go, and I think you'll find it much easier! It's one of those innovative things that makes me wonder why I could have thought of it myself!

Having good and patient doggies also makes a difference. Give yourself good marks for that.

I agree with everything that Lisa recommend! I too have better luck brushing the Sheltie skirt while my boys are laying down!
Here is a video that might help you… 4:45 begins the skirt line brushing!

Someone looked like they were living the dream during all that brushing- the smile was a mile long. Why the water spray??

I’m assuming you’re referring to misting the coat during brushing? Gloria isn’t on much anymore so I doubt she’d respond to your question.
If that is what you’re referring to, misting helps reduce the risk of breakage during brushing. Just a light mist after making the line and before brushing helps to prevent that from happening. What I’ve read is that the Shetland Islands is a more humid climate and the added moisture is good for the coat.
I use a leave in conditioner that I dilute with water (1/4 of the bottle and I top off with water) but even just water is good. I find the diluted conditioner just helps with brushing without leaving a residue.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the information- so little time so much to learn:sick: I know my crew pushes each other out of the way to in on the pin brushing..and soooo much fur..at this point if I brushed in the opposite hair growth direction the brush would be permanently stuck to the dog-- I am a bad owner for sure..
