I thought I would post this to share our experience with having our sibling boys neutered. We had it done on Valentine's Day (ok, doesn't that sound so mean? Happy Valentine's Day! You're getting fixed! LOL) First of all, our boys love our vet. They trot up to the door like they're going to see friends. Whew! But they get viciously car sick. Our vet OK'd using ginger gravol (half pill) for trips to the vet or long car rides anywhere, but for sugary NOTHING that day. So they arrived sick. Poor guys. Surgery went well, and they gave the boys something to help with nausea on the way home. Well, it knocked big Larry out. We had to carry him into the house. He was stoned and wimpering most of the night so I laid on the floor with him, spooning him, until morning. Yep, he was that pathetic. Little Bryan was pretty good, he was a little out of it but not bad.
We kept their cones on for 2 days and then just kept them on at night. Big Larry would literally NOT MOVE with the cone on. Turns out he couldn't see his feet with the giant cone so he just froze. I was actually worried that something was seriously wrong. So we took the cone off and he was his usual self. GO figure. So the cones on at night for the remaining 12 days. We didn't take them for walks (they like to jump into snow banks). And if they tried to lick their incision we simply said "no licking" and they stopped. That was super easy.
We took them back to the vet after 14 days to get their stitches out- and THAT they didn't really like, but they were ok.
As for behavior...nah, no changes. Still goofy boys who go insane and want to lunge at a particular dog they hate on our walks. (that's a whole 'nuther story) They're happy and healthy.
