Sheltie Foraging

Funny, foraging, food-sneaking Shelties. Part of their charm, perhaps?

Whisper hit the cat's food AGAIN this afternoon, but we have her on video. Busted! My hubby was home at the time.

She somehow managed to squeeze through the cat flap, using some Houdini dog contortions and scooting in head and one shoulder first, on her side then wiggling until she's in. A pretty amazing feat, really. She couldn't get out, this time, though, and she barked for help. Bill arrived to save the day, but we had one sheepish sheepdog, there. He tried not to laugh, but couldn't. He did make some modifications to the kitty flap, but the camera stays up until we're sure it's Whisper-proof.

When we moved into our house, DH was certain that getting litter boxes with lids and the cat flap would keep the dogs from foraging to tasty yummy treats. One day I heard loud banging. One of the cats ran through the room. More banging. I jumped up to see what was going on, because it was REALLY LOUD banging. I got into the hallway and saw Dear Casey stuck in the litter box lid. Front end inside, back end outside, banging the lid against the wall trying to get himself out. Three cats totally freaked out with a look that clearly said, "Wasn't ME!" I had to not laugh, get Casey to calm down enough to get him out (NOT EASY). It took a while, but I got him out. And Brodie was just looking at him clearly thinking, "You idiot."

If it's hanging off or near the edge of the counter, Zulu will nab it. He grabbed Mary's purse yesterday and pulled it down. Scared him good, purse stuff went everywhere!

Lacey has just discovered the delicious treats the cats leave for her in their litter box. Ugh, nothing worse than a puppy with cat litter on her nose!

Oh, dear! Let's hope this is just one of those 'puppy phases.'

But even with litter on her nose, she's such a cutie!

Sca takes his food VERY serious. After he finishes he knows that he is not to bother Spitfire's bowl while he is there. So he comes and says hi to me. Then back into the kitchen to lick Spitfire's bowl clean (just in case). Oh and he gets a drink in between licks so he gets the most leftover crums. Then he snuffles around the kitchen looking for any just in cases.
 That's what my honey does, but she does go and bother Ruutu. She stares at him while he eats then makes a dash for the bowl as soon as he leaves the room

We keep our cat food on a counter four feet up, high enough that even one of our elderly cats has trouble reaching it sometimes (or at least he pretends so we'll lift him). The tasmanian devil has, however, been spotted on several tables. She also has a habit of returning to the living room, as innocent as ever, with small white pebbles of cat litter on her nose. Wonder how that got there...

Honey has learned how to get onto my desk via computer chairs, and from there meander over to the filing cabinet that the cats food is on. I've pulled her off the desk no less than three times today. I also spotted her pulling a piece of lettuce off the counter that was a bit to close to the edge.

It's reassuring to know she's too clever to starve to death should I forget to feed her myself.
