Well no one replied to my last question. I need help with my Sheltie we got him at 7 month old he is as soft as anything with us both and people he know s but stingers beware. He nips legs shoes trousers. Barks a lot when out
He is sociable with some dogs not all.
I have even spent money on training. But he is a very high maintenance dog. But we do love him to bits. And he is now 16 months old. We had him castrated 2 months ago Hasn't calmed him down Any one Help.

Sounds like he gets very excited around strangers?
Maybe socialization with people (not his family) to desensitize him a bit?
Same for other dogs...

At 16 months he is still a puppy...he needs lots of exercise, too.
Walking for 1-2 hours a day, playtime, etc.
Puppies are a lot of work.

My boy calmed quite a bit at 2 years old, so there is hope.

It's hard to make any suggestions without more information. In particular what sets these behaviours off.

When does he nip - when you are walking, running, standing? Something triggers the behaviour.

What does he bark at when you are out? Other people, dogs or you, maybe cars? Is it a dog/person who is close or does he bark at a distance?

There's many different reasons a dog can be doing this, knowing the underlying cause will help cater an answer. Don't be afraid to include lots of information.

For what it's worth, it's a pretty common problem. Not that that means it shouldn't be addressed - it absolutely should. But it's pretty common for a herding dog.

The only thing I can think of is perhaps taking him to a good obedience trainer who is willing to do some one on one training with you and your dog, I know from my own personal experience a good trainer will help you deal with problems as they develop. It's possible that he wasn't socialized much with strangers/other dogs etc, I know my puppy Piper always barks at children but he wasn't exposed to them at all and much of the socialization occurs when they're young. Good luck:smile2:
