Sheltie or Collie

Don't all Shelties have Collie blood in them?

Anyhow, he is beautiful. And regardless of breed, if you keep getting dogs, there will eventually be that one that doesn't act or respond the same way the others did, haha. It's like life wants to throw you a curve ball :)

I do agree with tofu, he needs to be contained. Especially if you live in an environment when you know those triggers are going to be a constant occurrence? He obviously doesn't understand the dangers, and he hasn't been trained to restrain his chasing impulses (yet). And some dogs can never be completely trusted off-leash. Also, if he is tied-up within view of the cyclists, it may make his impulses worse? Just a thought!

Sorry he's pushing your buttons, I know how that is. I have one like that too.

Looks aside, I agree with tofu pup. My boy is a lot like yours.. STRONG herding instinct. While I've put in the training to tone it down, I still need to do a lot of management. Keeping him out of view, if possible, from cyclists/runners/cars will help.

Also, from experience, cyclists and runners are pretty good about stopping so you can catch your dog - minimal if any harm. Cars, not so much!

Well,
If he gets out any door before we can catch him and tie him up and he sees a bicycle rider, we have many in front of our home, he will chase them for blocks down the street ignoring our calls/yells to him all the time until he is ready to come back. It infuriates me.

As someone who has had their pup bolt after bikes unexpectedly I feel your pain...cmae, you're very lucky the cyclists stop near you, around us, they just keep going, and while I understand the want to get away from something with teeth that is chasing you it's so frustrating to have your dog led off down the street while you're trying to keep up best you can on foot.

I hope more of Laddies sheltie tendencies start coming out and your training gets easier.
