Yay! A Sheltie placed 4th overall at the National Obedience Invitational in Orlando!!! How cool! Anyone know this dog and/or the details?

Loved that a sheltie ranked so well, look forward to the day that the Sheltie takes the 1st place NOI... :)

Congrats to Dave Maurer and Buster for 2nd! (Golden Retriever)

Looks like it placed 3rd. Don't know them but awesome job. 16 runs and to score that high is something.

The sad part the ASSA did not even offer a medallion to the high scoring sheltie, guess that shows what they think of obedience. No wonder there is such a huge gap between performance and conformation people in our breed. One would think giving the history of our breed we would work together.:(

The Eukanuba best in show gets $50,000. How much does the NOI get? Not much. Sigh, disrespect is everywhere...

Sheltie places 4th at 2012 AKC NOI

Actually, the sheltie placed 3rd and this team is amazing! It is Vicky Gillow from Virginia and her 14+" cryptic blue boy named Kip. I know, I was there and watched this team perform in several rings. Can you believe that Kip is Vicky's Novice A dog!!! I believe Vicky told me she has 5 years of trialing in Agility. Even though I trial in VA and she trials in MD (my home state) our paths had not crossed until the NOI.

The NOI is filled with 8 rings, teams performing 2-3 exercises in each and all running simultaneously. Then there were the JRs in their rings too. I did watch Ward and David but I concentrated on Anne Paul and Pat Brunstetter. Anne won the herding breed last year and Pat won 1st and 2nd place (with her two female Ridgebacks) last and again this year!!

Mathew Twiddy, from FL, and his female sheltie Brandy had a beautiful second day as well as Chuck and his male bi-black. Chuck took 4th in the herding breed!! Sandy Ganz, author of several tracking books, and her sheltie had a wonderful 2nd day as well.

I was amazed at the endurance of all the sheltie teams. All of them hung in there and represented our breed fabulously.

I read awhile ago that to become a member of the ASSA through Obedience, you need to earn an OTCh. Does that give you any insight as to how the ASSA feels about obedience? I get the feeling that they'd like all performance sports to just go away.... That is until their National and when the Obedience entries are high = $$$$.

I believe there are quite a few people on FB making a buzz that the ASSA doesn't offer Breed Medallions. It's such a shame.

The highlight of the two day event was a 3 way runoff for 4th place. Then there was another run off between the 2 remaining teams. Talk about nail biting experiences...and I wasn't competing!!!

Thanks Dani, the picture of the winners from left to right made me think the sheltie was 4th... that will teach me to actually read the caption below!

Very exciting, I really hope to go see the Classic next year!

I went to a Gaines Regional, the last held in this area and was just a pre novice at the time. I was amazed with the blue matting, white rings and gleaming - beautiful - dogs!

How cool that was a Novice A sheltie! How exciting it must have been to be there. My long time friends daughter has gone to Juniors obedience and agility the last two years and done real well. She was 6 years old when I taught her all I knew about obedience... which wasn't much, she has grown into an awesome competitor and darn good trainer! (BreeAnne Farr with Rocket and Dare)

I hope that the obedience will get some coverage in February when the Eukanuba is aired on television, but won't hold my breath that it gets any more than a few seconds. The public wants to see dock diving and agility, they just don't get the front and finish and heeling ...

Thanks Dani!
