Sheltie Shampoo in 2025?

And it did last me forever LOL. At the time the gallon was priced 3 dollars more than the quart bottle. Well THATS a no brainer even I, the mathmatically challenged, can do that math in my head! ;) And it was concentrate so diluting too!
The boys' breeder was concerned maybe I was bathing too much, but when I told her 4-6 week intervals she was fine with that. Unless she was showing them she bathed 3-4 times a year! Otherwise just a good brushing. But then she had a huge yard with grass for her dogs. She never had to walk on a road with them. The road grime/dust here turns them so grey/dirty so fast its ridiculous, if I waited 4 months I'd have bi-blacks by then LOL

When Finnie was a puppy I bought a gallon of Pro Line Self Rinse plus (I was planning on showing him))….7 years ago…(it was cheaper or so I thought 😜)
I now use it sometimes before I bathe them just so I can use it (or before photos) because it’s now my doorstop 🤣
 
I agree with Sandy…I maybe bathe mine 3 times a year and they never develop the doggy odour. I bathe them more so because their white gets a bit dingy and dirty paws. There are times though where Piper NEEDS a bath but that’s because he drools.
I need to do Christmas photo’s so they’ll all be getting a bath this week!

When you're doing five dogs, eliminating that second step is a real bonus. And I love the smell too! And yes, you can get it on Amazon. I buy it by the gallon.

As a follow up, I bought the Buddy Wash Lavender & Mint on Amazon for a variety of reasons. It's normally very hot and humid here in Southeast Texas (Houston) but when the seasons change like they have the past few weeks here, the humidity drops and I think that affects Remy. He was scratching something fierce (we kept checking for fleas) but he got a bath yesterday with Buddy's and not only does he look & smell great, he's super soft and we haven't seen him scratch at all like he was. Really appreciate everyone's suggestions and input. You guys & gals really are the best!
 
I'm so glad you (and Remy!) liked it. I have a closet full of all the expensive fancy ones I've used for mine before shows, but I always go back to the Buddy Wash afterward. It's gentle and good for their skin and I've always loved the smell!
 
But the question is will it take care of skunk?? I have a friend whose dog just got into a discussion with a skunk and the skunk had the last word. Not a sheltie but still-- I can't imagine ever ever getting that skunk smell out of a sheltie.. I have used white vinegar in the past when on one of my dog that got skunked. Now skunk it a real test of a shampoo.....
 
I don't think there's any shampoo that will remove skunk smell! On the advice of a few friends whose dogs, including Shelties, have been the recipients of skunk spray, this is the recipe they swear by:

Baking Soda, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Dish Soap: Mix 1 quart of hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of dish soap. Apply this mixture to your dog's fur, avoiding the eyes, and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.
