Dog Poop

My Shadow loves to visit what I call "The Snack Shack"(Litterbox) and then wants to kiss me. I think not. sharon
 
This is a riot!!

Isn't it amasing how many of us have poop eaters and then they give us kisses !!:eek2: It's quite funny. Sharon 's Dogs have their own "shack shack":lol: I'm just roaring here !!
 
This was discussed on another Sheltie forum last week. My Buttons use to do it. We tried all the suggestions; vitamins, put some powder in her food that was suppose to make the poop taste bad, she didn't care. I read up on it and it seems that with some dogs nothing will work. We would just try to pick it up as soon as she was done. She would try to be slick and go around to the other side of the house and when we were out of sight, then do her business. Then I'd have to wait until she was just about done before I'd run over and scoop it up. Another poster did suggest enzymes instead of vitamins. Don't know how well that would work though.

My Sheltie Tommy felt the same way about our Guinea Pigs. He would follow around after them looking for yummy 'beans'!

You people are a riot !!:lol: Puppy pez dispenser, yummy beans !!:eek2: Can you just picture it, a cute little sheltie nudging the behind of a rabbit just waiting for a treat !! Oh my goodness.

Coprophagia is actually pretty common in dogs, though not necessarily in Shelties (I've seen it more often in Schnauzers, Cocker Spaniels and Labs).

The two things I've heard best recommended are pumpkin or pineapple. Apparently neither are tasty the second time around.

Failing that, ask your vet for coprophagia medication. They're essentially tablets of MSG, which, while not the most amazing thing for your dog's system, are better than poop. And those usually work where other things fail.

If it's the kitty litter he's into, get a litter box with a cover and move it somewhere not easily accessible by the dog. I keep mine hidden in the cupboard under the stairs.
 
I almost forgot to mention how helpful Shelties are if you keep Chinchillas. I never have to worry about stray chin-poops. The girls keep the Rain's cage area well-policed. They love their furry little brother:lol:
 
Maya doesn't seem to want to go for her own poop but she LOVES that of her sister, Annabell. :no: Even the largest dog in the house, Daisy, LOVES the poop of Annabell. Annabell doesn't have any interest in any of the poop. Perhaps I could try additions to Anna's food and see if the other two leave it alone.
