Sheltie weights - how accurate are charts?

Sheep is right -- the ribs test is the best way to tell. There should be some flesh ver the ribs, though -- you don't want that supermodel thing going on!

But Angus is leaning on me for petting flexed one way he has ribs, flexed the other no ribs perfect! Oh and for two skinny feel for back bone, I believe the test is there should be none.

One of our first Shelties, Bandit, was a supersize Sheltie. He was a rescue and came to us at 24 pounds, skin and bones. A good weight for him was 35. I agree that the charts sometimes just document dogs to the standard, that are no more than 16" in height. My current dogs are all around 15 inches and 20 pounds, which is a huge difference! So if your vet thinks they are fine and they don't look overweight, I wouldn't worry. It sounds to me like they're the right weights for their height. They are very handsome boys!

OMG! I am in LOVE! Larry just melts my heart! What a sweet face and that famous Sheltie smile! Gush all you want! If I had him I would do the same!
My Mr Chance was a big Sheltie and was 35lbs with a huge coat! Baron my current Big boy is 34. At 18 inches I don’t believe they were over weight! Just more to love and hug as I see how well in your husbands photo!

I seem to end up with bigger boys myself! Not the standard Sheltie size at all!
