Jessica that is such good news! I like this vet and agree with the others - he's a keeper.
My last sheltie also shook like a leaf when at the vets, would not take ANY treats, and I mean any - even steak! When in my arms, he would climp on top of my head, yes, if you can picture it, on top of my head, shaking the entire time.
 
It's great news Jessica that you've found a good vet. Health issues are a bit easier when you see someone you like and trust.As for Smudge's nervousness when at the vet, I have had only one dog that didn't quake,my golded retriever. She was the most laid-back dog I have ever seen and she loved everyone,with a couple of exceptions. As for the two she didn't like- dog's are extremely good judges of character.

I give treats to Smudge a lot before and after the vet visit. He doesn't get treats inside, because I'm afraid that it might drop and hit the floor. Dogs come in the vet's office with all sorts of scary stuff like parvo, flu, sarcoptic mange (the kind that Smudge doesn't have that people CAN get), worms, fleas, ect. So to be on the safe side the treats stay in my truck. Once the vet visit is over then he has two options for a treat. Those are he can jump into the truck or he can put his front paws on the inside of the truck to show me that he wants to go in. He gets double treats for jumping in himself, but I'm more than content with him putting his paws on the inside. :yes: That in itself is a big improvement.

I thought maybe he wouldn't be as scared of this vet's office since he's never been in before. Wrong. :lol:
