Shelties Are Highly Intelligent

Jack's big word is 'walk.' When you say it, he shoots up onto all fours, ears straight up, practically dancing to go. But what I find more interesting is the way that they tune into the other things that we are doing. For instance, when I work on the laptop, Jack usually sleeps at my feet, or on the recliner in my office. When I am done, and close the laptop, it makes a distinctive 'click' sound. Jack can be asleep, but when that 'click' sounds, he's up and ready, 'cause he knows that means I am done my work! Also, the sound of the plastic cover snapping off the Beneful tub. He knows what that means, and comes running even from another room!

Funny that this thread was posted. Two of my three girls will cock their heads to the side and listen to me talk also. My husband finds it hysterical that I have a full conversation with them and that they actually listen! The third is starting to learn, I don't think she had as much personal interaction. I also have had to start spelling words like walk and out. They will learn that soon too, I think it is all in the tone of your voice and that's how they learn so much. My girls know the sound of the cookie jar (human cookies) and the sound of the freezer - they love ice!

Shelties are very smart and I have had Golden's in the past who were pretty smart too! My mom's golden could spell too!

Anyway, I love reading about the little antics that everyone's dogs do, funny how we all think so much alike about our dogs! I don't know where I would be without them!:winkgrin:
 
My Smart Sheltie!

Since all the furkids hang out in my bedroom, LOL, I always keep a small water dish and a jug of fresh water nearby to refill the dish when empty.

Sparky, my six year old tri, was a bit on the dry side this morning. After lapping up all the water, he stood by the empty water dish, stared at me, and when he got my attention, then turned at looked at the jug of water!

I've heard people say dogs are dumb, but I think it's the other way around! How a dog can communicate with you, not being able to speak words, is utterly amazing!

Such a smart baby, Sparky is!:winkgrin:
 
Sounds

LOL@ the furkids knowing "sounds!"

They know ALL of the sounds of the kitchen; which sounds are associated with food/eating and which sounds aren't (coffeemaker).

They are also familiar with the sound of the shower running, as this means we are going out somewhere and that means they can go along!

Whenever I feel down and out, I always come here and look at the photos and read the tales (tails?) of our furkids and all is better. :biggrin2:

LOL, last night, Disco, the chocolate Lab/Sharpai mix. had Max's "baby" (a rag bone) and Max stood by watching him play with it, giving Disco "the look". Then, Max started waving his tail like he wanted to play and lured Disco away from 'baby" so he could capture it!

Smart, smart, smart!
