Shelties are not a fan of this heat wave!

I know lots of folks have it even worse than us - Margi is getting triple digits and back East folks have heat, humidity and smoke to deal with. Mine just look at me and I'm sure they're thinking "Um, we're from the Shetland Islands? Off Scotland? Where it's cold and windy a lot? WHAT'S UP WITH THIS HEAT???"

We used to have a fairly Mediterranean climate here, not too warm, not too cold. The occasional heat wave for maybe a week. Therefore, no one has A/C. Have to make do with fans.

How is everyone holding up?
 
We’re the heat humidity smoke crew here. Temps over 100, lots of thunderstorms and so much smoke the sky is yellow and we’re told not to be outside. Not sure whether the Shelties or me hate it more. None of us are fans of summer and this is summer squared. Is it winter yet?

Still not nearly what our Canadian friends must be going through. And you’ve had the wildfires in CA Sharon. I’ll still complain but I really feel for our northern neighbors!
 
Strangely enough we are having a "mild" summer for us! No 110s here--(yet!) Of course the monsoon is moving out for a few days and its gonna get fugly over the weekend. This is our time to burrow into a nice air conditioned house--and only come out between the hours of 5 am and 7am!
 
We had heat a week ago with temps in the high 90’s plus the humidity which made it feel like 110! Even my air conditioning couldn’t keep up with that. The dogs didn’t care so much as it was cool on the house but getting them out the door quickly was frustrating!
We’re back into the heat again this weekend but just into the low 30’s…I can handle 30 plus my cucumbers love the warm nights.
Fortunately we only had one day last week where it was smoky although we are supposed to have some smoke today. At this point we have bad fires to the East of us and bad fires to the West of us so there’s no avoiding it!
 
For Mr. Pip's sake I have to keep the house much cooler than I personally like. I used to be comfortable at 75F, but having lost 20 pounds I can easily feel fine with the indoor temp around 79F, so long as the air is relatively dry. But a human body, like a dog's body, is a natural furnace, and a fairly inefficient air conditioning unit, so I put some extra clothes on, strictly for my doggie's sake! (And my daughter's, when she visits ... it's always "broiling" even at 73F!)

When my wife and I were first married, before we could afford air conditioning, we would suffer in the heat of Delaware summers. One day she brought home a huge hangar fan (she worked at the local Air Force installation). It was just the thing for our little house, and blew so violently that every loose, light object had to be tied down to keep it from blowing away. That fan spared us a lot of misery in those good old days!
