Shelties doing Disc Dog workshop, great new sport

It is fun for boys, they did not need any teaching they run and jump and try to catch...
It is hard for them to pick it up when it falls with rim down and I really do not want to muck up my play retrieve because I think we eventually grow up to formal obedience retrieve and I do not want any cross over behavior.
I thought I could encourage speed and running while doing our plank for for running contacts but disk fly too high and I want head down run...
Really need to ask if I can separate those behaviors. Such a fun toy!

So much fun! glad you got such drivey dogs for it
but that is exactly the opposite, lol stupid formal obedience, lol (i'd rather watch paint dry )
In Discs you NEED the dog to look UP to see/catch the Frisbee, but I seriously think the dog knows the difference in what venue! It's great for conditioning and running and extending! T extends and looks straight ahead and then looks up to track the Frisbee. So for short distances he def expects me to throw right in front of him! lol
Maybe put in on Cue??

I love precision of obedience, not sure I want to compete but want to keep door open
Love that disk already gives great toy drive, no need to build. So we are going to give it a go and see what happens.

bahahhaha you would like all that precision and well thought out, analytical stuff lol, I would go nuts!! I am not the type who would enjoy doing it. lol, where is the instant gratification!!!?

Of course I appreciate the massive amount of work and commitment people put into it!! I just wouldn't enjoy doing it to a competition level, lol. Good for you tho!

Foundation obedience etc etc is different, I believe all dogs should have it and all handlers, regardless of what dogsport they get into need to have a basic obedience foundation imo
