OUCH!!

These attacked Kaleigh & Savannah on our outing to the Snake River today. I didn't know they grew in the sandy areas and the poor girls got them all over their legs as they ran to sniff the water. They haven't really had a river experience yet. Trying to get them off their legs they both sat in more of them. It took me almost an hr with my pocket knife tiny scissors (that is all I had with me) to free them from these awful things. I thought this would be a fun outing that turned awful for the girls and me. Chunks of fur had to go as they were too deeply embedded. My fingers got poked deeply. I thought goat heads were bad, but these are way worse. Kinda put a kibosh on our new adventure...and it was finally a nice sunny warm day.

We had that happen once at a dog park in Charleston. We were so frustrated. It took so long to brush them all out, and I remember Bentley being very unhappy!

Sorry this happened and ruined your fun outing Now you'll know to avoid that area.

They are SO prickly I know they were painful for them, so the girls were very unhappy. I bet Bentley wasn't thrilled with the ordeal. I agree it is so frustrating removing them, they don't budge at all.

I usually bring the doggie bag with everything in it, but of course forgot it was in the other vehicle. Isn't that ALWAYS when stuff happens Chalk it up to me not scoping out a play area better. . I just wanted the girls to run and play in sand & surf, who knew it would be a bust experience .

I once spent 2 hours removing tiny burs from Gavin after hiking near San Luis Obispso. I don't think they hurt him, but man those things are insidious!

experience is a great teacher, eh? these things had puncture-ability. I can handle seed burrs that stick but are harmless, these had teeth

not even that big, not even the size of those fold up sewing scissors...my swiss army knife is the key chain type and the lil scissors are only about an inch...sharp but very tiny...but it was all I had so you make do...
