Shelties underfoot

So.... how often do your Shelties attempt to trip you? Mine are just masters at being underfoot. Blocking the hallway is a specialty but of course sneaking up behind me in the kitchen is a favorite too. This morning I came home from the gym, opened the door to the house, and was totally blocked from moving by all 3 dogs who weren't about to move aside of their own accord. Sheesh.

I think I'm noticing it more because my knee replacement surgery is coming up next month and I'm going to be very, very careful of my walking for a while. Will have to use a walker for two weeks, so that should help fend them off. ;)
 
And why MUST they lay in doorways?! Or between pieces of furniture that are walkways? Ours are always scattered in different doorways or paths and when you attempt to step over them they get up when you're in mid-step! We call them furry speed bumps. :banghead:
 
It is an ongoing issue here too. Her two favorites are poking her head between my thighs and looking up at me and the second is she rolls her food ball from room to room until it gets stepped on. Why she feels the need to follow me while controlling her ball is anyone's guess.

I’m forever stepping on a squeaky or furry toy, especially when backing up or walking into a dark room. I’ve almost fallen when thinking I’m stepping on a dog’s tail or you step on that ball and it goes SQUEAKKKK and you just about have a heart attack!

Piper likes to either lay under my mom’s walker or yup…in the doorway. My mom has to somehow navigate around him because he won’t wake up for her🤣.

Although I do remember when I broke my arm…it’s like they knew I was injured and all 3 of them were incredibly careful being around me.

Very strange though, the dogs will try to herd my mom when she uses her walker outside (especially Blueberry) but never in the house. They stay out of the way.
 
They are a herding breed and if the cat is not available then you are the sheep-- Shelties have to boss everything from chipmunks to squirrels to people. Mine also seem to be underfoot all the time and stand in the way especially when I am leaving home.. I also get heel nips as well-- I do not have permission to go..

Good luck with your surgery- I had bilateral 10 yrs ago- afterward didn't have a good leg to stand on :) . Do your exercises and stretches--I am sure your pups will help stimulate your post op PT!!
 
Benny likes the doorways or intersections so he can see into multiple rooms at once. If I go around the corner and out of sight this requires him getting up to follow!
He almost took out the neighbor who stopped by to chat for a minute today. Walked right up behind him. SMH
