Shelties with kids...

Hmm, it should work!! I logged out of my facebook to make sure it worked :confused2: Maybe you need a different program? Are you using Explorer or Firefox?? I have Firefox, so that could be it if you are using Explorer

...I just checked and it worked on my explorer?? weeeird.

plays for me....

But I worry about encouraging a little one to swat a dog. The next dog might not be as accommodating. And, the sheltie puppy here drops to a submissive pose.

Yeah, after we took that video we started to tell her "no", and she caught on. We try to make her "huggie" the dogs when she starts doing that, and she quickly catches on. She doesn't hit my sisters dog, she usually cuddles up...i think it's because Caliber is so bouncy and playful.

I haven't looked at the links posted, but all of our Shelties are great with our 2yr old. We prepared the dogs for her homecoming and continuously work to teach her how to treat them and work with them on how to behave around her. Rain took months and months to get her good around our daughter, but she was a year old and had never had any prior training or experience with children when she came here. It was well worth all of the work. :smile2:

Max played with my cousin's 9 mos girl at Christmas. He never did anything in the least aggressive. She screamed & giggled at him the whole time while he pranced around & barked at her. He absolutely adores the nieces & nephews ranging from 5 to 9 years old. They play soccer & football on Sundays. Max would make an exceptional pass cover for the Dallas Cowboys. Lord knows they could use one. :rolleyes2:

It worked for me, cute video Tara :smile2:

Sadie and Milo are both great with kids and have always seemed to be drawn to them. Sadie is currently going through a shy phase but will still run up to kids when she sees them, but not let them touch her right away.

Tara! What a cute video! I loved it when she 'killed the puppy' and he put his paw over his face! LOL

BUT Now I get to listen to my two year old repeating 'Get the puppy' over and over again! :rolleyes2:

The ones of mine who have been exposed to kids are generally very good with mine, but since I don't have kids myself, quite a few of mine have never been around them. One of mine I wouldn't trust with kids. Any time she sees kids she tries to run after them. I think it all depends what you do with them... if you have them around kids, they're generally pretty good, if you don't, they don't know what to make of them.

I don't have alot of exposure to young kids to put in front of my pups. But I do make sure that I expose them to "rough play" from time to time to get them used to different types of human touches.

This means me pulling on their ears and tails and sometimes flipping them over. Bacca is totally cool with it. Indy is still learning. And of course, the two of them constantly flip each other around which helps too.

Having been bitten by a dog myself a few years ago (not really his fault, just an old deaf dog that didn't hear me coming), and still dealing with nerve damage as a result, I am very sensitive to ensuring that my pups get used to any kind of touch without reacting aggressively.

Years ago when my wife became pregnant I worried about how our Sheltie would handle it. When we brought my son home the dog immediately became excited and wanted to sniff him but was not rough in any way.

The Sheltie decided that the baby was his---perhaps the sheep he always wanted-----and was a constant companion for my son. The Sheltie knew how to make my son laugh (even when we did not ) and seemed to genuinely enjoy getting his fur pulled or any other interaction.

The only real disadvantage was that when our Sheltie passed my son cried for days. But then again I was pretty broken up myself.
