Short-term foster dog

Well after a wonderful fun 4 days with Selena, during which I got completely attached to her.... we dropped her off at the shelter for her adoptive mom to pick up. I cried. How can they creep into your heart so deep, so fast?

This private no-kill shelter does extensive home checks and questioning of prospective adopters so I know she'll go to a good place. I just loved having a real cuddle bug around.

Asta and Ally seemed sad tho and avoided me when she was with me, so I really felt bad about that. :( I tried to give them extra lovin' too. I tried to explain to them we were just trying to help out a pup in need, just as we hope someone would help them if necessary. Don't think they got it, tho.

Anyway I left my name and number in case the lady has questions, and asked if she would update me after Selena has settled in with her. No idea if she'll follow up. SIGH.

I expect you all think I'm a major softie.

!!

Well, of COURSE you're a softie! We're SUPPOSED to have a soft a loving spot that pets develop and grow within our hearts so that we are better people!

Who wants to be a brittle brick!

YEAH SOFTNESS!

Words of wisdom. Thank you, Janet. :smile2:

Wow--that was fast! Bless her little heart. I'm so glad Selena has a home of her very own. Now, to soothe any ruffled feelings at home! :biggrin2:

I don't know how you do this! When you form such an immediate bond with one, how can you bear to let them go?

I guess its knowing that by letting them go, you leave your home open for another foster to get ready to find a new home too! It must be extremely gratifying. Bless you!

Awww....she is absolutely adorable. Thanks for sharing your story with us. I will keep her in my thoughts, that her new home will love her and treat her as she deserves. Thanks for your kind heart.

Hope I did this quote thing right!

Usually I am able to have some detachment in these situations, especially since I don't have the pressure of worrying that they have a finite time to be adopted. But, I have met a few that I have just instantly loved, I guess it's the chemistry?

This was love at first sight for me with Selena, and she was just as nice a dog as you could want. My husband was more stoic than I when we left her but the next day he said he'd been thinking about her all day; he missed her and hoped that lady deserved her! So she worked her spell on us both.

We just keep saying we did the right thing for her to help her on her journey, and let that comfort us!
