Shyness, fear, and other behavior problems

Is there any possible way for you to enroll your puppy in a puppy obedience class? It is a good way to get your puppy better socialized, will give you someone to help you work through problems, and teach the puppy basic manners.
Also, something else that seems to help build dogs confidence is agility. At this age I wouldn't recommend jumps, but basic contacts don't hurt. I have had two more reserved dogs which have been helped tremendously by learning they can work through scary/new situations.

GeeRome is right, clicker training is great! I've done some clicker training with Sadie and she loved it and caught on very quickly. Many places also offer clicker training classes too, although you can easily clicker train on your own. I learned about clicker training in Petsmart's puppy class also.

I had started clicker training with Bacca but got side tracked from it when we went to puppy school. I'm planning on going back to it because he took to it so well! I have some makeup in a toob that clicks when you swivle it up. Every morning as I'm putting on my make-up, Bacca goes into an immediate sit! And then wonders where his treat is!

I'm totally cracked up here -- you are an absolute riot!!!!

Barb! HAHAH! That's hilarious! Handy to have that around when your clicker isn't near!

This is kind of off topic, but I found that I am clicker trained too. I was at a petstore and next thing I knew I hear the familiar clicking sound and my head shot up immediately and turned towards it! Someone had picked up a clicker at a counter and started clicking away! In my mind, I was thinking 'The treats! The treats! Where are the treats!'

I agree with Hopeshelties on agility. It's fun for the dog and builds both confidence in the dog and the bond between the dog and the owner! I just started pre-agility with Romeo and your dog needs to really trust you to walk up that ramp and along that narrow board! And when he does it and I click and treat and praise like he cured cancer, it makes him feel like he really HAS done something that important! That brings up his confidence level. I'm sure he's thinking "Wow! I rock!"
