Skin irritation

Hello fellow Sheltie lovers,

In February we got our first Sheltie , Maci, currently 9 month old tri colored sheltie who's been nothing but fun for us. Recently i had noticed bumps underneath her coat on her hind quarters. Since then the condition has worsened and is beginning to be flaky skin that's causing some hair to fall out but nothing severe. This is only in a small area (about 2 inches in diameter).

This past Saturday we took her to the vet and the Dr assumed she had ring worms. She wasn't much help to us, unfortunately, because the Dr wasn't very thorough even after i explained where the irritation was occurring. She prescribed some medicinal shampoo and conditioner which we have done one wash since. Shes supposed to be bathed twice a week and the conditioner used daily.

I am newly registered on here hoping to find a few answers regarding this since it's a forum all about shelties!

Welcome to th forum !!!Would love to see pictures of your little cutie pie. Good you took Maci in for an exam, especially if it is ringworm, since people and pets can pass it back and forth. Did your vet do a fungal culture or skin scrapings ? Fungal cultures usually take 2 weeks for results... If no improvement or you need more info you should call your vet and say so. Hope Maci's skin improves real fast .
 
She used a black light to see if she could visibly spot any signs of ringworm. Though she didn't see any apparent signs, she did informed us that it still didn't rule out the ring worms. Thanks for the reply!



P.S - how do i go about uploading a profile picture? i couldn't find where do to that. Sorry it's off topic.
 
Ummm...I became a premium member and it is very easy to post pics that way...but i think if you look under FAQ the instructions are there.

if you mean an avatar pic like Mellie has next to her name- you have to be a premium member to do that.

if you mean a profile pic - that is on your member page- go to user CP and on the left is a link to upload a profile pic.
I have a profile pic but not an avatar......
 
I seen a cat have a large stone hit him in the ear, it made the ear lose some hair on it. The cat was taken to the vet the next day, the vet said it was ringworm, my friend didnt mention the stone rolling off and landing on his ear, she was afraid. But shows oddly the vet prescribing meds. and saying under the black light it was ring worm. I took him in where I worked and had one of the vet tech girls check him and no ring worm, which I knew of course as I saw the incident first hand. Thought it was an interesting story to tell you.
