We met the new vet today - he was very thorough and took his time explaining things. He feels it is allergies causing the trouble and has put him (and us) on a strict protocol for six weeks. Bear will be on a strong antibiotic for 3 weeks to get rid of infection and will be on a strict hypoallergenic diet (Royal Canin Rx food). Bear can have no snacks of any kind other than a bit of his kibble. He's such a cute beggar, too. We're going to have to be tough!
He also has two prescription shampoos - one has to be left on for 10 minutes. He has to be bathed twice a week or more in the beginning to lift the scaling and possible allergens in his fur.
It's going to take patience and follow-through, but our hopes are high right now!
Thanks for all your support!
