Skunk Smell

So a few weeks ago Honey was sprayed by a skunk, the hydrogen peroxide mix got a lot of the smell off, but she was sprayed right in the face, so around her eyes and close to her mouth still had a distinct smell.

The other day I saw a tree tea oil based spray we picked up to help with her scratching, and I thought... what the hell, I'll try that. I soaked a sponge with it, and dabbed it around the face.

It completely covered the smell! One application lasted about three days too, which isn't bad. I thought I'd post it on here. In addition to covering the smell I'm reassured that it's specifically formatted to be safe for dogs, which is what worries me about using straight oils, (someone on facebook recommended lavender) since so many herbs can be dangerous to our pets in concentrated formulas or large doses.

It's happened to Honey twice, the first time most of it hit her bandanna (best fashion accessory ever) and she seemed to remember playing with the skunk fondly.

This time most of it went in her eye and mouth, she was so distraught and I was panicked because I had to force her to stay confined on the deck and I couldn't go get anything to start cleaning out her eyes until I could get my husband up and outside to help.

Stupid skunks, it's awful, but our friends down the street shoot them and I so fully support that. The week after the attack there was a huge skunk run over in front of the neighbors house, and I cheered.
