Smudge's eye

I like Smudge's eye. Both my Hamish and Emma have dark brown eyes. Now Noah, a blue merle, had one brown eye and one eye that was half brown and half blue. It looked white in bright lights because you couldn't see the blue, which was on the bottom. If I remember, Noah's brother had both brown eyes.

I don't think the skin around his eye looks abnormal. Buffy's looks like that too. (By the way, I have noticed before that Smudge has light eyes. It's cute.)

But if his eyes look sad or in pain I think your mom might be onto something. Might not hurt to keep a close eye on his behavior for the next few days to make sure nothing is wrong.

I think his eyes look perfectly normal.

One could take a look at Jasper and think he has eyeliner on.He is so light, that his darker liner & eyes really pop.

Trapp's eyes are the same way, although he is darker on the face than Jasper. So his eyeliner & eye color are not as noticeable.

What I did notice with Smudge's eye color is that is is very light,in comparison to other shelties. Our pups eyes are dark brown, almost looks black/brown.Earnhardt's eys of course are a striking yellow/gold.

His eyes look just like Layla's -- she has that same dark pigmentation. We call it her eyeliner! Really, he's fine -- the eyes sparkle!!

I had not noticed Smudge's light brown eyes before.....if my Sheltie Talk book wasn't packed away, I would take a look.

Both my pups eyes are almost black, with no white and no discernable pupil either.

I checked Bacca's eyes, and he has a similar black rim around his eye. I think it's the contrast of skin colour against his sable fur.

That being said, if you are noticing a difference between one eye or the other, then it may be something to look at further. That is, if one eye seems to be tearing more, drooping, etc.

Otherwise, I'd said he's got neat eyes for a sable. I really wish I could get my hands on that book! I don't know what the conformation rules around his eyes would be. He's not a sable merle is he?

He's not a sable merle is he?

I'm gonna vote no, but for all I know he's part collie and part sheltie.

Jennifer actually did ask me that once (if he was part collie), but I think she said it as a joke. Who knows - maybe she was serious?! :biggrin2:

From the sheltie standard.

Eyes medium size with dark, almond-shaped rims, set somewhat obliquely in skull. Color must be dark, with blue or merle eyes permissible in blue merles only. Faults-- Light, round, large or too small. Prominent haws

So light eyes are a fault. Not that is matters, all dogs have faults.
