In the last few weeks,Trapp & Jasper have got a new habit of sneezing, snorting when the get excited. They do it when they want to go potty,or even at dinner time.

Does anyones shelties do this? Imagine a spinning dog, snorting, and sneezing all at the same time. Yep...that's SuPeR JaSpEr

Yup! Mine sneeze when they are excited, espiecially if you blow in their face (their favorite game) Dusty will even hit his nose on the floor sometimes when he sneezes.

Our Rookie does the snort thing too, but it isn't when he gets excited. He seems to do it mostly at night and I think I've narrowed it down to he's allergic to Downey fabric softener. If he does the snort thing during the day which is rare..I'm thinking it is because of something in the air at that time tickling his throat/nose.

I've found that rubbing his neck doesn't do much good when this happens. What DOES help is a treat, or drink of water...and the BEST and fastest answer is a little bit of yogurt which coats his throat. He's fine after that. Also, I no longer use Downey at ALL. He hardly snorts ever now.

I wonder if it also has something to do with his supposed "small trachea?"

It's funny because Brie has real sneezing sometimes that is a hay fever thing but she also does that sneezy/snort thing! Like Trapp and Jasper it is usually when she is excited to go outside or for a walk. She doesn't do it when waiting for her food because she is too busy barking at me to try and get me to hurry up! Apparently there is no time for 'cute' when food is close at hand!:biggrin2:

No sneezing and snorting, but my sweet little Lottie snores like a truck driver!

We are trying to work thru this "new" behavior.I was really kinda alarmed by it,as these guys never have done it before. I know if I sneezed as many times in a row, that they have been doing my nose would hurt!

Its mainly when they want out to potty. Not so much at meal times, just once in awhile. But the spinning from Jasper, coupled with sneezing, snorting its a wonder he don't fall down from exhaustion~

Do you have that on video? I can't even picture what that must look like? Angel will sneeze and snort from time to time but it's usually if she hits her throat on the edge of the furniture when she doesn't quite put the effort in jumping up.
