So..do Bi-blacks have a distinct personality? Do tell??

Shelby our bi-black is completely different than Hollie (our sable angel) was. Like night and day. Hollie was very easy to train and always very eager to please. If we were not happy Hollie was not happy. Shelby on the other hand is extreemly smart and has a mind of her own. She does not get upset about anything. She does not care if you are upset with her which has made training quite a challenge. Shelby has grown into a very well behaved and sociable lady, but it did take a lot more time and patience. I do not know if it has anything to do with color.

Ok....I must be asleep and missed the post....."Blake will be home"? Are you truly getting another pup! OMG!

I know it makes no sense but I do believe that Tri's and Bi's do have different personalities from sables. I've no basis to quantify it or explain it, it almost seems like Sheltie Tri's and Bi's contain more of the gene apparent in border collies. They just seem to generally have more "something"

Yeah, not terribly helpful....I know!

I know exactly what you mean! My Belle is just like a little border collie, my tri, in her younger days was pretty active too.
My sable is pretty laid back nothing seems to phase him
And my 2 bi-blues... my son thinks they are dumb blondes!

my first sheltie, years ago was a bi black. she was smart and high energy.

Here is my firsthand observation- total anedotal mind you but Sables are thinkers and AOACs(includes Bi blacks, bi blues , Tri and blue merles) are doers. AOACs on avg are higher engery. Sables appears to be old souls.

There are always exceptions ie Ember who is the biggest thinker there is. But then again her mom is a sable. :smile2:

where do sable merles fit into that scale?

The sable merles are sables in my mind(brown dogs).:biggrin2: But sables to AOACs breedings can go either way. Mister Pike the sable merle is more like the sables and is outcast from the AOAC pack. But then he is the only dog who sleeps in the bedroom at his house so who is the smart one?

I guess Cran is just a boy then as opposed to color differences:winkgrin:

My sables are the doers in my bunch, though Kai, one of the blues is as well. However, my sables are not coming from pure for sable lines, for the most part. They are heavily tri factored, and a blend of AOAC and sable lines.
