Happy 13th Birthday Katy! I’m happy to hear she’s doing so well! I hear you about the freezer…I have a freezer pretty much dedicated just for the dogs (with the odd thing I put in there for us lol).

I wanted to give an update on Farmer's Dog.
As a lot of you know, my baby girl passed away on Dec 30, 2024 :'-(
I had just gotten in a shipment from Farmer's Dog, and she never touched any of it so I had a full box. When I went in to cancel my subscription with Farmer's Dog I opened a chat and asked if they had a program where I could donate it or anything.
They immediately refunded the entire last shipment! Almost $200. And just suggested that I donate it to any local shelters. I thought that was really cool of them.
Then today, I received an unexpected package from Bloomscape: a calathea houseplant, aka a "prayer plant"! It turned out to be a condolence gift from Farmer's Dog.
They really didn't have to do any of that. I mean, from the perspective of a business owner, I only had the one pet so I'm not an ongoing customer any more. I didn't expect a refund or a gift at all, and there's no financial advantage for them to have done it! So it was just... kind.

Chewy does this as well. It is extremely unexpected and yes, very kind. And I'm glad it happened to you. Were you able to donate the food? If a shelter isn't an option, maybe your vet would know of a client who could use it? Better than wasting it. Or maybe the vet could use it for hospitalized dogs.
Right now it's in my freezer :-/ I was going to donate all of the medication to her regular vet, but it snowed and I've been stuck inside for several days! Maybe next week.
I could find someone to take it, no question. There's a local website, if I post something for free it'll be gone in an hour! LOL But the ideal person would be someone that can keep it going and benefit from the long term usage, not just someone trying to "get by for a few weeks" if you know what I mean.
That's a good point about hospitalized dogs, though. I might take it to the emergency vet; they're 1 1/2 hours away, but they're the ones that would have hospitalized dogs.

Farmers Dog is real food so it should be good for months! Maybe more since I don't think dogs care two twits about freezer burn like we do...

That’s such a wonderful gesture of Farmers dog to do that. And how nice of them to send you a plant!
I agree with Margi, the food would last at minimum 3 months in the freezer, if not longer. Why not ask the vet clinic if they know of anyone in need who could use it? Also, I just remembered we have an animal food bank in my city…they give pet food people have donated (and buy food to donate with cash given) to those who are in need. Check to see if you have anything in the area.
