Sore on bum

Yup, it was a ruptured anal gland abscess. Poor Koji. Once it ruptured, he was way more comfortable. Can't say it was a good thing, but at least he's not licking his butt anymore. I bought a donut for him, as you may have seen, but I don't think it's going to do anything. I was sent home with pain meds, antibiotics, and told to use a warm compress twice a day to help the pus come out. EW!!! On the upside, it doesn't smell like expressed anal sacs. AND Koji got a poop chute trim. He's sleeping right now which makes me feel better. Recheck is next Friday, hopefully the hole will close up naturally.
 
Yikes, good that Koji is on the mend. I know every case is different but I am surprised the Vet didn't suture it. o_O

I was told they try not to as they don't want "stuff" to be stuck in there. Dr. Shelli said they don't except on a rare occasion, so I'm going to assume it's something that's not typically done.


On the upside, the pus has stopped coming out, it's kinda all exposed, but Koji hasn't bothered it at all today. Been trying to keep it clean and dry.

Dr Shelli ROCKS, imho. Glad the infection is abating, that is an encouraging sign. Sounds like Koji is on the mend-phew!!!
