Spiral Fracture!

Oh wow. I'm so sorry. Having had the recent Melli abscess leg nightmare I became an absolute expert on securing a leg. I got some socks with rubber bottoms off Amazon. I ordered a bit larger to compensate for the bandaging. That helped tremendously. Strength to you and your little one.

The vet actually did send me home with an IV bag with gauze as a tie to hold it on. But he found it very ackward and heavy and kept tripping over it. I finally discovered that my poop bags were long enough and I've been using that instead. Keeping the bandage dry is critical, I know. He goes back next Monday for assessment I hope this cast comes off soon. he wants to play so bad with his big brothers

Your next problem is going to be keeping him from chewing on the bandaging. I think it must get itchy after a while. Phoebe could reach the top of it and tried to pull out the padding from under the splint. I used a long sock that had been treated with bitter apple, but others have used shirts. As I said, Phoebe's bandaging came off at 5 weeks, but that might have been because she had the plate for internal support.
Keep us posted! http://s12.photobucket.com/user/Sonya_Birkel/media/CIMG0254_zpsogignnfk.jpg.html

Adorable but not waterproof. And now that I have snow on the ground, especially important. Because he's a puppy, it just a pain to pull the bag on, tie it, while he us squirming desperately to get outside. Then feed him and do it all again. On and off. On and off. Sigh! Ok will stop whining now!

And snow and puppies....you know how it is. Play, play, play!

I really hope the cast comes off and stays off on Monday, but I know that's optimistic!

I just caught this post, I am so sorry. Things happen so fast and I am certain Aiden will heal and be fine.
I think when things happen its harder on us humans then our shelties.
I love Shelby' mom IV bag idea.

Ugh, wow. Because adding a new puppy to the family wasn't challenging enough, huh? So sorry this happened. I know I have cringed every time Kupo has leapt off of something, or fallen. Luckily he's only fallen a couple of times, and was thankfully okay. You just never know when they are going to hit the wrong way!

So good news! Aiden got his final xray today and the cast came off! Yippee! No more having to wrap his leg in plastic bags to keep his bandages dry. (Do you know how hard it is to house train a dog if you have to wrap his leg ever time your bring him outside???) Bad news, is the poor pups leg is so weak and about 60% the size of his normal leg. I was prepared for that, to some extent, but not prepared for how weak and twisted it looks. So, we still have a few weeks of careful therapy to ensure that he does not injure again. That means.....are you listening, boys???? No rough housing! Yes, two weeks of quiet meditation and contemplation...... Uuuuuummm! Really???

I have been wondering about Aiden. So glad things are going well. I remember when Phoebe's bandages came off. Such a skinny, sorry looking leg. Once the hair grows back it will look much better!
