Spirit Joy

That part from the weaves to jump #3 was nasty with jump # 4 directly in front of you.
Did you run down the left side of the weaves or the right?

I thought that was particularly tough for an Open course. I had originally planned to run down the right side, but when I walked the course it didn't seem to flow well. So I ran down the left side, and when I pulled Spirit over to jump 3 she wrapped (turning left) instead of heading right to jump 4. Guess I should have stuck with my original plan.

So Spirit got to class tonight and did gorgeous, incredible contacts even when I left her in a 2o2o and took off to the middle of the field. *sigh* I guess we'll just keep proofing until we're ready to try again. There's another trial in 3 weeks (which is local) and she's entered in Jumpers, Standard, and FAST (I figure depending on where she is with her contacts, we'll either do Standard or FAST, but probably not both. I just think 8 runs in 3 days is a lot to ask of a baby dog. I would rather ask her to do less at this point and leave her wanting more than overdoing it. Though she seems pretty darn excited about it for now.

We also did a recall to weaves - I put Spirit in a wait, then went to the far end of the weaves, and released her to the weaves as I was running perpendicular to the finish. That proved difficult for her. Definitely something to work on. It was a lot of fun though. I gotta say, I have amazing trainers who always come up with interesting, challenging things for us to work on.

She actually hit the entries beautifully. But she realized it was faster to just run past the last ones and head straight for the treat. I gotta hand it to her, she's a smart little girl :-)

Thankfully, it looks as though Spirit is conquering her fear of the teeter. She did it without any hesitation last night, and even went off course once to go back to the teeter to get her Cheez Whiz. I'm so relieved that she's bouncing back. Hopefully she'll be up for it for the trial in March. It's still 3 weeks away, so paws crossed!

Spirit had agility camp today, and apparently had a wonderful time! Her BFF was there at camp with her so they got a chance to play as well. I'm still waiting for the trainers to send the videos, but they showed me on their phones when I picked Spirit up. There are 2 different teeters at the school, and one is much shakier than the other. The shaky one is the one that scared Spirit last month. Well, today, she was running up it and riding it down, no problem! She's sequencing with the teeter and everything! So very proud of my brave girl, working through her fear and bouncing back. Hopefully she'll be ready in March to do a Standard run! But if not, as least she's making progress. I was really worried that she was always going to be afraid of it. The down side of a smart dog who remembers everything is that they also remember what scares them :-( But it looks like she's a trooper and will push through :-)

Honestly, if she gets over it this quickly I'll be SOOOOOO relieved! In the grand scheme of things, this is really pretty minor.

I just found out Spirit was placed on the team for DACOF (Dog Agility Championship of Florida)! I am so, so excited and extremely proud of this Baby Dog :-)
