Spirit Joy

Thank you! I'm sort of hoping to have her first trial be at the end of December. She'll be about 17 months old then, but really, I'm more concerned with her ability to stick with me and not get distracted and zoom all over the place. She really seems to have a good understanding of the obstacles and a lot of handling at this point, but still suffers from "puppy brain" at times :-) I'm trying to just enjoy the ride, but I have to say that my heart swells with pride when I see how incredibly beautiful she's become, and how breathtaking she is when she runs a course. Not that I'm biased in any way ;-)

you're not biased- she is beautiful:yes:
I'd be standing there admiring her all the time:winkgrin:
I'm sure that she will do just great when you get in the ring.

Three out of four dogs, I did not worry about 'losing' them while we were running a course. Dixie did have a couple visiting moments but she never really took off and left me.
Destin- that was my concern with his first run. He actually did really well in terms of staying with me. His third run- that was when he first noticed the bar setters...... but he came back and we finished the run and then he decided he wasn't ready to be on leash yet..... very embarrassing when your dog won't come to you:rolleyes2:

And yes - that's my fear - that Spirit will refuse to be leashed back up at the end of the run. She thinks keep away is the BEST GAME EVER!!!! But we just finished up a 6 week focus class that seems to have helped tremendously. Now, I think, it's just a question of practice. At least her recall has improved a lot!!!!!! But I'm still questioning her ability to recall from an agility course. She's just not going to want to stop :-)

I'm working on any time we finish a sequence, getting Destin to jump in my arms. then he can have his cookies.
Spirit is a lil one- you can probably do that too:yes:

I see you are in FL- guessing not real close to Pensacola though....
we'll be in Pensacola the weekend after Thanksgiving.......
that's about the only place we trial in FL.

I was thinking about teaching the jump into my arms - she's only 11 pounds so easy to catch.

Pensacola is just about as far as you can possibly get from me and still be Florida - I'm in South Florida, near Miami. Sure wish I could get up to Pensacola to watch you though!!!!!!

I was afraid that you were going to say south FL..... well you could be in the Keys- that would be even farther:winkgrin:
well, we will try and get video so you can still see........:pop

LOL! Yep, the Keys would be further! And then I would have to drive through that horrible traffic every time I wanted to come to the mainland. No, thank you!

Yes, please do get video!!!!!!!! We love watching videos!!!!!!

we'll see what we can do:fl

I have visited the Miami area- way too much traffic. I much preferred the Melbourne/Palm Bay area or even the New Smyrna Beach area- that was nice.

well, we're off to practice. working on jumping and whatever else is set up for tonight........

Today I had Spirit unofficially measured at an agility trial. She's 12 1/4". I'm just relieved that she's at least 12". If she was between 11" and 12", she still would have been placed in the 12" height class (dogs between 11" and 14" jump 12"), and I was really concerned about whether that would be hard on her joints. Thankfully, she's a little taller than I had thought and should be fine jumping 12". And she never appears to have a hard time jumping 12". I think she's only dropped 3 bars in her entire life - and once it was because the jump was set wrong :-)

Anyway, I'm really relieved that she's taller than I had thought she was. Though she still looks very tiny next to some of the other 12" dogs. I guess she's just built more petite and fine boned.

that is cool. it's always nice when you get a measurement that you are happy with. I plan to get Destin measured in Feb:fl
there will be 2 VMOs at one of our upcoming trials so it will be nice to knock it out in one weekend:smile2:
