Stairs without risers

Sounds like you've made progress.
I would keep at it, and don't give in, just like Justicemom suggests. And praise like crazy when he does move, even one step.
My forever pup was petrified of the hardwood stairs in my old house. Going up was ok, but coming down was just awful for him. I needed to give him a good reason to come down. Treats worked to some extent but what really got him was the kids waiting for him at the bottom of the stairs.
When I moved into my new home, my basement stairs had no risers. Indy refused to navigate them. But one day, he decided to go down and now he's up and down all the time. I don't know what it was that got him going, but it was obviously something special.
So one step at a time. Good luck! You will get there, with patience and perserverance.

What a GOOD BOY, McKinley! But don't do it all the time...keep your hooman guessing and that will keep the treats coming, trust me on this. Once you make it easy, the treats will stop. And above all, never NEVER let the hooman know what you are thinking! Keep her guessing! Works for your momma.

We have done well here to keep Ron and Jan guessing. I think I must of got that from you. You know, Jan is not a huge on handing out treats. She says that I will get fat. Has she looked real long in the mirror?.............ohhh did I say that out loud?
Anyway, Jan does really good "I'm a good boy. I'm the best boy parties" though and I really, really like those parties. And then after training, we ALWAYS play for just as long.

P.S. Sca you have never met Amber. She would never, ever, ever carry me upstairs. She is real bossy..........real bossy and she called me the "baby puppy"
the other day when I cried and hid in Jan's arms. Don't get me wrong. I like Amber real well and she is real good to me........more treats than Jan. But she is scrawny and she would scare me more carrying me!

going up the stairs that have no risers
We have stairs with no risers and had to teach both our puppy sheltie Finley and our new adopted 5 year old sheltie Indie how to go up. This is what we did, it may work for you!
Sit in the middle of the stairs - like on stair 6 or 7 with some yummy treats, like chicken or something they don't ever really get but cannot resist. Be happy and encourage them to come up to get the food. Slowly we moved up a stair at a time until we got to the top of the stairs - we wanted to teach them to look up to the top of the stairs and not look through where there isn't a riser.
When we would carry them up at night (until they would go up on their own) we would set them down so they had to go up the last 3 or 4 stairs, eventually they did it on their own.
