Started our new class + any high value treat suggestions?

Riley works for Zukes mini naturals in agility class, but for jackpot treats and treats in obedience he gets boiled chicken (or rotisserie chicken). We jokingly call the Natural Balance dog food rolls "doggie crack" as they are quite smelly (in a very good way) and you can make them any size you want. He also goes gaga for dehydrated venison and rabbit, as well as tripe.

The Rollover roll I was talking about is the same idea, only I find they're more readily available in my area than the NB rolls are.

I use Purebites dehydrated chicken which they love. I also have Cloud Start Tricky Trainers (I get the salmon flavour) which are only the size of small kibble. They love these as well. All I have to do is say chicken and they respond beautifully.

Yeah, I find the liver and lung wayyyy less rich than any type of kibble :ick
I never had an issue Toffee loves all food and especially cheese in all version, so the other day for jackpot I filled his Kong with locally farmed, organic goat cheese?! For mat work when one of his arch nemesis works close to us, I tell ya he won't break that stay! hahahaah

However, Scotty my rent-a-poodle that I take to some agility classes doesn't care of food, I was SO baffled  how to train, hahaha, plus his toy drive wasn't the highest in that surrounding either.
I tell ya dehydrated tripe is the ONLY thing that kept me sane, haha
Thank Goodness Poodle is smartest dog ever, can't believe I am saying that:gaah

Thanks everyone

Thanks for all your answers! :smile2: It is very appreciate to get so many suggestions. Some of you like Diana & Toffee's mom also made me realize to keep it simple and remember what gets Kyara's attention in the kitchen when we cook :wink2:

Tonight I will bring some ham, hot dog and cheese to experience with - I'll stock up on low-fat string cheese to prevent stomach issues. Over the weekend I will cook up some beef heart and liver. I'll also get some Rollover + Well bites for those times when I run out of the home made stuff as well as an option to bring many different things in class .. Picky Kyara gets bored from getting the same treats or toys over and over again :rolleyes2:!

As for the weaves, you may be right Ashley about Kyara having a stepping on the middle bar issue. I'll pay attention to it tonight and make sure to tug around it or give her the best treats while stepping on the bar. She does like to tug but when in a new situation with lots of things to ''watch'' around she gets too nervous to tug but I'll give it a try!

Cheryl, thanks for the reminder to not be afraid to talk to the trainer about concerns or to simply suggest stuff. It's a great thing to keep in mind!

I'm excited to go back to class tonight!

Glad to here you class went well, always a plus, as for doggy Crack we have used real beef heart, cooked liver, and about every type of premade soft liver treat availible on the market, my guys love'en all, there current favorite is by My Little Wolf, its a liver one and super low cal at 1.3 cal per treat, although about $1.50 a bag more then thier last addiction training treats which were 3 cal per treat.

PS .Know where you are comming from all of a sudden last week at practice Storm decided that a flying leap off the dog walk is the only way to go, she's still hitting the frame and the teter contacts but decided that a good flying launch off the dog walk from about 6 inches above the contact zone is the correct way to do it, she did it once at practice friday and then twice at lessons last night mind you I missed the easy target call last night as well because I was scrambling to keep up, dog walk only so far thank god, but contact work is scheduled too be sure.

low fat string cheese:yes:
my dogs and most of the other dogs around beg for it....
It's like that Christmas commercial a few years back- the Power of Cheese:lol:

I do use Wellness wellbites too but cheese is cheaper and we don't have to go to the pet store every other weekend:winkgrin:

I'm far from an expert, but my agility instructer suggested hot dogs, cooked hamburgers, chicken, and cheese.

I got some cheap leg/thigh combos on sale at the store, and boiled them in some water until cooked, then pulled the meat off and froze it in small bags.

The instructor had hamburger patties, cooked and quartered, and gave me a quarter a time to break off pieces to work with. Romeo really glommed that up !

I like the idea of the rolls of prepared dog food - I may try that when I need more treats !
