Starting 2021 off the right way....

Of course Shelties are priceless, but these high prices have me worried about affording Sheltie #2. I don’t know what all the breeders here charge, but the ones I do know charge $2000 and up for pet puppies. In my opinion $3000 is too high.
Here in Massachusetts and surrounding New England states the standard price for a pet quality sheltie is between 1400 and 1800 dollars. 3000 is over priced, IMO

Gosh that surprises me it's considered high. But maybe your tests are cheaper, or maybe there are so many Shelties and stud fees are cheaper? Shelties have small litters and by the time the breeder pays stud fees, vet bills, eye and DNA test the pups, hip/elbow score the parents (still not all do this), show and title the parents, keep a pup themselves (and maybe one to the sire), it doesn't leave anything; and of course if the bitch has a caesarian there's a loss. Now that's the good breeders, and most breeders here are small concerns, I guess for breeders who have a lot of dogs and do more inbreeding it may not be as much. But to be registered they must do certain tests on the pups.
