Steel, ceramic or plastic!?

Definitely stainless....but make sure that you get stainless inside and outside. I made the mistake of buying great skidless bowls (rubber bottom and some kind of green painted outside that has been sloughing away). I can put them in the dishwasher, ever. forgot the rubber bottom rim, just put it on a rubber mat.

Stainless for food except for Sasha who has a fear of metal bowls. Ceramic for water...but they are the heavy crocks from crock pots.

wow mad props MegansMom on starting this thread, I have been shopping for AGES for beautiful ceramic bowls in paisley patterned or general earth tone colors and clearly I have been wasting my time !! Stainless steel it is !!

I so ever rarely feel required to start threads because y'all are so on the ball and have pretty much always covered things that have sat in the back of my head or whatnot to things that are a primary concern , three cheers for the Sheltie-loving Brigade :biggrin2:

Next questions is....how often do you clean your dogs bowls?

I wash Bailey's food dish every night. I have two water bowls. I clean and swap them out every morning.

Stainless steel for food and water. Wash the food dishes by hand after every meal and the water dishes every couple of days but rinse and fill with fresh water a couple of times a day. Small water bowl inside, large one on the patio outside.

Stainless Steel here too
Wash them not as often as I should apparently! :o
I rinse them out everyday before I prepare his meal, that's when I rinse out water bowl, too
