Such empathy

Yesterday while inside the house I heard a thump on a bedroom window, indicating a bird strike. Went out to check there wasn't any injured bird. Eli and Meadow accompanied me. Elijah has been really good about finding birds in the bushes under the windows for me, so I asked him "Is there a bird?" He sniffed around and walked away. Something kept me looking though, and then I spotted a small sparrow totally upside down. My heart sank, but I picked it up. It was breathing and eyes were open, appeared just stunned.

I gently stretched out the wings to see if they were okay and they were. So I sat down and gently cupped the bird in my hand, waiting for it to recover. Meadow came up and ever so gently sniffed that bird all over and then gave it two small licks on its beak. She seemed VERY concerned. I think she wanted to make sure it was okay. Really warmed my heart. Eventually the sparrow flew off, thankfully.

That’s so sweet. A few years ago there was a bird in my yard…I couldn’t see it initially, it was just very strange behaviour from Finnie. He kept wanting to go outside and was looking under benches and such. Eventually I took him outside and he ran to a bush….I said there’s nothing there Finnie as a bird came rushing out. Scared the heck out of me! It’s like he was concerned something was wrong with the bird. I ended up shooing it out of the yard (I’m not touching it lol) and he went back to normal.
Sheltie’s are so amazing sometimes!

Aw thats so nice to hear how kind Meadow is!
Oh I dread hearing that thunk. It happens fairly often too, as we have a ton of dove around my house. Dove are really stupid and apparently blind based on how often one of them slams in to the window!
Usually they recover on their own. I don't have a Nurse Meadow. Fil, like Sca, would scarf them down, but Benny just doesn't care about any other creatures except shelties apparently!
