Surgery shave

My lil 1.5 year old boy has been having a rough time lately. Within the past two months he has broken a toe while playing frisbee and gotten bitten by another dog. We took him to the vet after the bite and they said all is well (he has a very very thick coat and we couldn't find anything indicating trouble). Two days later we take him to get groomed and our groomer finds a large abscess where the dogs tooth had punctured. We felt horrible. Long story short: he gets a drain placed and is started on antibiotics, and then ends up having necrotic tissue that has to be surgically removed. We have been on an incredible roller coaster of emotion with it all and he is back in good spirits and seems fine. The only thing is that where he was shaved from the surgery is clearly itching him like crazy, has dry and flaky skin, and in general just doesn't seem to be wanting to grow hair the way I would like to see it. It has been about two weeks or so since the shaving. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience with this?

Our sheltie, Jack, had an FHO surgery so he had 1 side shaved by his hip. It looked weird for a bit but all the hair did grow back eventually. There is a product called Tri-Care that I am using on him now for another skin issue. Heres what is said about it-
An antiseptic, pain reliever and fly barrier in one ointment. Contains antiseptic, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal ingredients, plus Emu Oil and Tea Tree Oil to help promote healing. Contains Benzocaine and Menthol to relieve pain. Citronella scented with essential oils to keep flies away from the wound.
Great for use on horses and dogs.
Keeps bugs away from open wounds! Ingredients:Benzocaine,Menthol,Emu Oil,Tea Tree Oil

I have also used coconut oil. The Tri-Care is very thick & sort of like vaseline type ointment.

I've used tri-care (we just called it "the goop") on rain rot and the various scratches horses are talented at getting and have had good results. Unless you have AmazonPrime, it would probably be cheapest at a farm supply store but some pet stores may have it. (I think I might have seen at Fifi & Fidos in SA when we were visiting my in-laws but I could be wrong, but I'm sure McCoy's or TSC have it.)

We tried "Dr. Harvey's Organic First Aid Healing Cream" before on Olive's chafed skin and were not impressed -but my mom borrowed it and used it on her poisen ivy and liked it so it may just depend on the application.

For wound care, I recommend Vetrycin. It's super expensive but the best ever.

In reality, though he's probably just itching as his new hair grows in. And it will grow in. My forever pup, Bacca, had numerous surgeries......it always grew back.

Another member's furbaby got attacked by another dog last year.. a lot of his hair was shaved off and it has grown back beautifully! Time and patience :)
