I wanted to update on this thread as i was asked about it on another thread, my response:
I truly agonized over Shelly for weeks. The main decision came down to NOT wanting to place any stress on Shelly that would cause an outbreak; I was told while I was trying to make the decision that she had an outbreak due to a stress and that the source was removed. (I was not told what it was).
But because I have a soon to be 4 yr old grandson that spends A LOT of time with me at my home and Shelly had not been around children that young; I was concerned this would place stress on Shelly; therefore I had to make the decision as to what was best for HER, not me (because I wanted her). That decision was very hard for me. I want so much for someone to adopt her; she is so precious!! And her scars did not bother me at all. After talking to several people more experienced with DM and my vet; I was concerned my grandson (not intentionally) would be stressful for her.
I also still look at Shelly often and pray for someone to open up their home to her! OK, my heart is broke again!
God love her....I do!
Don't beat yourself up over your decision, you obviously put a lot of thought into it and are doing what may be best for Shelly. You made a heart breaking decision with Shelly's best interest at heart, which a lot of people aren't able to do.
She'll find a wonderful forever home eventually, even though its not with you.
