Tarsal Fusion Surgery

Thank you!!! I've had a rough few months, so I am clinging to my dog like you probably can imagine! He seems to be rebounding well, and he has been an awesome patient. I know he is bored, but he is OK with being my lap dog for now. Just hope it lasts a few more weeks!
 
Four week post-surgery check up today and all is looking good! Vet x-rayed and was very happy with progress. I think the fact my dog has such an easy going temperament is really helping him out. Recovery has been very simple. He would love to be more active, but is listening so well!

He gets re-xrayed in two weeks and if all is still going well, he will be cast-free!!

The vet also said he may not need PT, but I may go for a couple appointments anyway and see if she can give us some exercises to try at home.
 
Five weeks post surgery and we are now cast free!!! The Dr is very happy with the progress he has made. I, of course, am a very nervous mama and protecting him as much as I can. I have no idea where we go from here. We do go back for x-rays in 4 weeks, so until then, leash walks will continue and I need to research how to rehab from this particular surgery/injury and see if I could be doing more. There is so very little literature out there!!!
 
Glad to hear the cast is off. Bet he is happy!

I'm trying to think of where you could go for more information. I'm sure you've tried googling it. I wonder if there's anything on YouTube? I got a lot of good information by messaging people on YouTube who had posted rehab videos.
 
Yes, he is thrilled to be cast free! However, the 1st thing I did was give him a bath which he finds absolutely torturous.

I'm not finding much when googling it except for forum links to similar stories, but so far no one has posted anything as far as rehabbing afterwards. I'll keep googling! Youtube is a good suggestion, will try that, thanks!!

Why don't you contact Debbie Gross Saunders of Wizard Of Paws?She does all kinds of rehab work on stuff like that.She is in Conn. and maybe can offer some advice.Maybe worth a trip down to see her depending where in NY you are.
 
I am actually in touch with her! We've exchanged emails. She is about 2 hours from me so I am debating when would be the best time to meet her. I'm guessing I have to wait until next set of x-rays.

That is great news.She is awesome.She isn't far from me maybe 10 minutes from where I train.
