Teaching your pup about areas that are "Off Limits"

Or the trashcan. :dead: Smudge is so tall he can stand on his hind legs and scrumble through the trash. Fluffy stands on her hind legs and she can stickh her snout in and sniff. Her snout isn't as long as Smudge's snout. Smudge has a loooooong face.

I'm still trying to convince my mom to let me buy a new trash can with lid. :rolleyes2:

yep got a lid for Sca and might get lids for the bathroom wastecans... Sca LOVES to nose surf.

Oh and wait until the look away :confused2: does a Sheltie ever look away from food?

I train with food as rewards, and use food as a distraction. Sometimes he has to ignore the food to complete his tasks (scent articles, attention heeling, dumbell retrieve)

He thinks all food is mine, and it is, until I tell him he can have it.

When learning this, he suffered the torture of balancing a biscuit on his nose until given the 'ok' to flip it off and eat it. Still one of our favorite tricks.

My sheltie is sensitive, wouldn't dream of counter surfing, oh wait... he probably would but can't reach the counter...

One of the most important rules. Here's a very good, simple youtube video I like that teaches it:

A great demonstration of what I was taught, although I did it without the clicker.

Of course, you still need eyes at the back of your head....Indy responded well to "Leave It" last week, but by that time I saw what he was doing, he'd already gotten in 3 or 4 good rolls into the fertilizer! Sneaky bugger!
