Teddy was right again

This afternoon I had a BP episode. Instead of being high, it was low for me.
I knew it was low I had just got done taking it. Teddy was on his long walk with my wife at the time. When he came in he didn't greet me normally. He started sniffing me all over and then started licking my right wrist for a long time.To get him to stop I redid my BP with him watching.
As a side note, when BP is higher than it should be he will sniff then lick my face until he sees me use the machine. He has been really accurate on the high side only being wrong twice this last year.
I am very blessed that he has learned how to do this. He takes really good care of me and visa versa. :)

It's great he can do this and you recognize it and acknowledge it!
It was low blood pressure that lead to my husband passing out in the bathroom the first time I realized Benson was howling a warning, so you take care of yourself and hopefully get that regulated soon!

All we have to do is listen, all our pups are smart and try to communicate with us. Each one in their own way. Just like back in our high school days when we had to take a foreign language, Sheltie speak was not the option so it just takes longer to learn. :)

That is one amazing pup you have there, Ron. How wonderful that he's so in tune with your needs. Teddy is a treasure...oh, and he'd like to remind you he should be treated as such...maybe a few extra cookies or a steak?

Be well and take care of yourself and that special boy!

That is so true! Finnie is my ‘feelings’ dog…he’s incredibly empathetic. Just last week I realized why he did so poorly when we competed in Rally…he’d bark and bark and just be very attached to me (he’d even wrap his tail around the back of my legs). It occurred to me he was this way in the ring (and to a lesser extent in classes) because I was very nervous! He was feeling what I was and he sensed things weren’t right with me.
Here I’d been blaming him and all along I was the problem!

Dogs seem to read body language much better than we do, maybe it is more important to them. They also hear and smell things we can't even imagine and so if they feel comfortable they try to tell us about them. I have had bilateral knee replacement and one knee never did do well the other is fine. Lately and periodically it really bothers me-- soft tissue not the bone- and interestingly my male Sheltie pops up on the couch and if I am wearing shorts starts licking that knee and has done that the whole time it has been giving me trouble???? I don't know if it is by chance or not. In another post I mentions one of our Shelties licking the cats head by his ear and it turns out he has a basal cell carcinoma which will be operated on this month...?? Again chance or????

I posted this before but it is a good read on dogs and scents...

I've seen a handful of stories of dogs sniffing out cancer, bugging their owners about a spot on their leg, or nose or whatever that turned out to be cancer. Pretty amazing.
