Honey loves crates, the smaller the space the happier she is, and she will frequently whine at me because our bed is just 1 inch to low for her crawl under there and turn that into a den! Mango on the other hand...ech..she did okay when I was right next to her with the crate, but as soon as I had to leave she would freak out! It's a shame really, it'd be much easier if both were okay with crating... At first I was worried it was separation anxiety and we were going to have big issues...but she just seems to hate any kind of enclosed space. Great article, reading something similar, (or this exact piece, if it's an older writing) was what really led me to a break through with training Honey.

Fantastic article! My dog was crate trained when she was a puppy. I have an open crate in my house and many times find her fast asleep in it. It is not only a a den or an escape for her, but a safe place if there's anything going on in my home. I rarely have to lock her in the crate, but a great tool to have if there are workers in my house or something going on where it is safer for her to be confined.
