The Case for Brushing Teeth

Yikes, so glad for your dog that you are brushing and aware of dental problems! I am brushing to avoid the high bills, $800 for last cleaning and 2 extractions. I brush my teeth, they cant brush theirs. Yes I give a raw bone at least twice a week. Dogs do not have to have bad breath.

Wow,I was nearly floored when I read how much for the last dental of 800.00/& 2 extractions. you are the second person that has told me of thier high dental bill on a dog.

Trapp's dental yesterday,was 60.00. $30.00 anesthesia
$30.00 cleaning
It is more of course for every tooth pulled if needed. I believe it was $12.00 per tooth.

That's it?!? What about blood work? If I recall we paid $600 for one dog and $800 for the other, but that included the pre-surgery blood work and multiple extractions. One dog had 11 teeth pulled.
 
I won't have my bill for Checkers until I pick her up later but the estimate for her dental plus one extraction NOT including the mandatory preliminary bloodwork ($45) was $700....This is why my dogs have health insurance, phew.

BTW, she is out of surgery and doing well, according to the vet's office. I can't wait to get her home!
 
Thanks, Randi, and thanks to everyone for the good thoughts. Chex is home and doing well. She had a bite of chicken and rice, her pain pill, and is resting happily in her crate since she's wobbly from the anesthesia.

I forgot to say what a bargain the $700 estimate sounded like after my vet said he could give me a referral to a canine dentist who could do a crown on the tooth for $1200 - $1500!!!! :eek2: Mine don't cost that much!
 
Ok, so I'm at the dentist myself yesterday getting my teeth cleaned, and feeling the hygieniest poking with her spiky tools getting at MY plaque build up.

So I start thinking, lying in the dentist chart....I put Troplicean Water Additative to my dogs water....what if I added it to mine??????? Or even just added some to my water pic! :confused2::smile2: Would I too have fresher breath and less plaque build up???? Ha! No joke! I'm seriously considering it!
