Very interesting and challenging too. Particualy interesting is the response blocking and the the resulting lifestyle adaptations...thanks for this-will keep it on the front of my mind. I feel that I try to practice the most humane methods in my dealings with other creatures and to simplify this is the Golden Rule from the Bible-Treat others as you would have them treat you. I know i fall short but that is the goal for me.

Very good article, it has given me a lot to think about. I've always believed I should 'set my pets up for success' but now I see I may have skipped around on the hierarchy. Which leads to confusion on the animals part.

Our Forrest was strongly suspected as being a BYB/Amish stud (was found with 5 other lovely adult Shelties in the woods) and has a permanent cage scar on his snout. I see the hopelessness described in the article in him sometimes when he gets upset or is harshly corrected. I'm going to do some thinking about how to improve his behavior without hurting his spirit. I jokingly call him my Tender Heart Dog because his feeling are so easily hurt. Thanks for posting the link!
