The Last Straw with Ellie! Rant/vent

Yes, Ellie LOVES Richard but she hasn't ever treated us the same. She is definitely "my" dog. My poor husband adores Ellie and he is the MOST gentle, loving, kind, caring, laid-back person in the world, but he's the one who gets bitten. She also does not enjoy petting from him and we can't figure out why. If he pets her, she gets up and moves! She also loves to get in my face and make me laugh. She LOVES that. She never gets in Richard's face. She sleeps next to me on the recliner and never cuddles with Richard--although when I am not home, she will lay on his feet.

I kept thinking about Ellie and Richard and it started to make sense to me that she likes him, but prefers you. I have been around one person dogs, my father had two of them, it was him and nobody else. One was a female, she didn't bite, but don't pet me, I am his, and only his. The other was a male.

As I have stated my BIL gets bit all the time, and he plays frisbee with this dog, but the dog is my sister's dog. Same thing, cuddles with her, but BIL is not permitted to pet him, this dog would rip his hand off.

Believe me I feel bad for Richard and my BIL. This is a situation, I don't know what to say. Maybe if Richard carries treats in his pockets to lure Ellie for a cuddle.

The sad thing is that Richard loves her so much that it hurts his feelings that Ellie is generally not affectionate with him. She loves to go for rides with him and he gives her treats all the time and dotes on her and trains her, too. He is an excellent owner and usally he is the Pied Piper with all animals and kids. Ellie is just my dog.

I always tell him that the cat is his. When we got the cat as a wee kitten she was devoted to me, as she got to be about 9 months old or so, she turned all of her affection to Richard. SHe LOVES LOVES LOVES LOVES her Dad. She will sit on my lap (if Richard's is not available), but she gets on Richard's chest and into Richard's face. She will not do that to me.

All in all, our animals are weird.
