The Unique Sheltie Character

Emma has now started to go look for me before I come home from work, if she's told to go find her mother. This at 7-1/2 months old. She has also started sleeping on the floor but mid-way through the night she's up cuddling on the bed. She has also starting getting up on my Mom's knee during the day to have a cuddle. Good thing she is not a bigger sheltie.:smile2:

First, I'd love to hear what practical jokes your Sheltie plays on you.
I've heard of this, but have yet to really witness it for myself.

I don't think my dogs are as in-tune to my emotions, as was my first Sheltie. I will always remember crying and him pushing his nose into my hand and rubbing/leaning against me, kinda like moral support.

Miko is definitely sensitive to moods though. You can see him start to inch away the moment my hubby starts to get irate with Koji. And Miko will scramble into my lap if DH is upset. That's when I know to go tell DH to take a chill pill and leave Koji alone.

Shelties are the sweetest dogs I know. :) That's why I love them!

Deska likes to hide behind trees then run out to 'surprise' me. He will also pretend he is sniffing and wait until I have turned around and walked away and he races up from behind and grabs my trouser legs or the lead in my hand. One really annoying practical joke he loves (altho its cute too) is when I go to pick something off the floor he will pick it up first and then just move out of arms reach taunting me!

Tully is much more sensitive to my moods than Mr D, and i think thats because she is a sensitive soul herself.

Emma loves to wait until I take off my shoes and then grab one and run with it. She knows I'll go after her to get it. Doesn't matter if it's a good shoe or a running shoe.

McKinley is a practical joker!

His favorite is to run up behind you while you are bent over working in the garden and just lightly "nip" you in the bum...............Hey that's not funny McKinley! as he lays down and "laughs."

His other is to wait till you go for water down in the brook and you are standing there filling buckets and he comes flying out of no where and CANNONBALLS into the wading pool, drenching you in the process..............Hey that's not funny McKinley! as he lays downs and "laughs."

Then of course he slides quietly next to you and shakes water all over you as you are walking back............That's not funny McKinley! as he skips away laughing.

Then, right after you fall asleep and you think he is sound asleep, he commando crawls up next to you, very quietly and he sticks his wet d@#% nose in your ear for a "wet willy"...............McKinley THAT IS NOT FUNNY!.......but he is pretending to be sound asleep, but there is a smirk on his face!

I use to wish for a dog who played practical jokes, because I thought it would be so endearing.............Now that I have one who does..........yes, it is endearing, but also...............well I have learned to be careful what you wish for.

you know this is so true!!!! last week i had mouth surgery. my sheltie mix , bambi, who barks incessently at everything, came up to me and sniffed my mouth and must have sensed i was was hurting.she did not bark all day except twice. once at a rabbit and once when someone came to the door. and she laid on my legs with her head in my lap all day long.
