There was a whirling Dervish at the Bluegrass festival today...

and it was on the end of my leash !!! I was kicking back listening to my husband's band playing and all of a sudden the leash goes tight and Sally is spinning and barking and lunging and all that good stuff at some cute little black spaniel type doggie who was just sittin there looking at my maniac dog. Made her sit and all that , but she was like that with a few of the dogs we saw today and there were tons of dogs . Oddly, I had her at work yesterday and she was just fine with all the dogs there ,she was running around all over with no problems with any of them...back to socializatiion 101...

Misty was my first eskie. and she hated, totally, other eskies. she would do all that Sally did. but Misty was fine with any other type of dog. when i had Misty i had shelties too

Sca spins on his harness watching other dogs run in flyball since he is so excited. I am guessing it was I want to PLAY!

Mostly smaller dogs but she did start to get huffy with a retriever mix who was a larger dog...just weird cause she would walk by some dogs without even looking at them, but other dogs ,lunging craziness. She is a shy dog and I know she was over stimulated, I didn't have any treats to help when she did focus on me. She did have a bite or two of our dinner so she wasn't totally shut down or she wouldn't eat at all.

Went to another Festival today and there was no whirling, twirling, lunging, spinning, snarling, or barking from Sally !! There were all kinds of dogs- some that even gave her the stink eye, but good ol Sally barely lifted her head to look at them...big dogs, little dogs ,dogs close up and far away.She walked right by numerous dogs of all sizes with no problem. There were lotso kids and toddlers patting her head- she really does like kids and she shook hands and gave them high fives too. There were lots of skateboards and bikes , men in big weird hats, people with umbrellas and walking sticks, strollers...nothin out of Sally. She just sat or layed beside me watching it all go by. This is usually how she would be...maybe she reacted like she did at the last festival because she had been vx the day before...just don't know for sure.

I know its frustrating, the same thing happened today with Beau, we went out for out morning walk, fine with people of all ages, goes up to people when they ask to pet him. He's quite the charmer, (he's lucky momma's not the jealous type)

Anyhow, we were walking along south street a main drag in Philly and we came across a Sheltie puppy, (just beautiful) we stopped and chatted for a few minutes, and beau behaved for about five minutes and then the puppy came up on his face(something Beau does not like) and he went after the puppy, I felt terrible and apologized profusely. The owner was like, well you did warn us, so they were cool, but, I was devastated. I made sure the puppy was okay, and wished them well with their puppy and left the scene.

With Beau, I've come to learn its not about the size of the dog, we walk past dogs all the time no problem, he generally, doesn't like dogs rushing him, like this morning on our first walk, we were on our friends steps(he was sitting on my lap) and some guy let his datsun run right up on us, even though I told him no.

But, it still doesn't make you feel any better

We will heading to the beach and are taking Sally. This will be the first time she sees the ocean. Hopefully she will enjoy this. She likes to chase the water from the hose so i am thinking she will want to chase waves-who doesn't ?! If not, we will just play a lot of disc. Unfortunately she will have to be kenneled over night, but it is at a vet. hospital 2 mi. from our motel. She will be frightened, but she will be ok.
