They must be making them big these days.

Phoebe and I were on our walk this morning when a woman pulled up in her car and asked where did I get my dog. She said she was looking for a mini sheltie like mine. I had to laugh a little. Phoebe is 15 inches at the shoulder. Not a mini.

At least once a week I get stopped by people who want to know how I found a sheltie that is so tiny. He's over 16" and when I tell them he's over hight according to the breed standard they are shocked. Apparently there are a lot of CKC registered shelties in our area that are over 22". A few people have even shown me thier papers and sure enough thier dog has been registered as a sheltie. One that showed me paper had a "sheltie" over 27". :censored:

At the rescue we're going to on Saturday, there's a male that is HUGE!! He's got to be at least 24"+ at the shoulders. A rather intimidating animal and he knows how to use that factor - even on humans.... and I'm over 6'1" and 225#.

My girls are smaller and people always ask how big will they get when they're grown. Kaleigh will be 3 on Valentine's and Savannah will be 3 come Labor Day...They are fully grown now and coated up, they don't even resemble puppies. But my previous girls were oversized both around 40 lbs., don't know how tall, but more of a medium sized looking dog. Since I am in the downsizing season of my life, I like my more compact girls. They are easily hoisted & cradled on an arm, and that suits me fine. My days of sooper sizing everything are done. Less is more.

My previous sheltie was about 18" and 36-40 lbs. My current one (who was supposed to be "slightly" oversize) is over 44 lbs. and I think about 19.5" and he is only 12 months so may grow a tiny bit more. He is a handful and his large size makes it a bit more difficult. I love him dearly but next dog I adopt will be smaller. People always think he is a collie.

I had a "breeder" of collies tell me that Kaleigh who is a tri, wasn't a sheltie but a border collie, that I was misinformed and my girl was totally misrepresented. I saw her parents and she most definitely IS a sheltie. People are experts on everything these days so no point in trying to educate them. I just laugh and move along.:bored::rolleyes:

Edan and CJ are 14.5" and 14" respectively. I still get asked how much bigger they will get and they are ten years old. People are completely flabbergasted by that revalation.

Personally, I take it as a complement that my senior dogs look and act like healthy young dogs.
