Thoughts on coats or jackets for our fur babies.

Depends on the dog. We don't have any jackets for Cosmo, his coat is thick plus he is a brisk walker.

With Jet, we have a black and yellow/reflective water and windproof raincoat, he's a slow walker and we often have him wear it at night time because he is a tri, we don't want anyone accidentally running into him because he doesn't make an entrance like Cosmo does. :o

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am still not sure if I will get Laddie a coat or not, Bella has hers, but last winter, Laddie did not act cold at all, in fact, he liked being out in the snow. I might try some boots if I can find any around here, but even then, not too sure.

i have neverrrr done coats, felt dogs with two coat don't need them
I also live in super cold weather (well this winter anyhow, gosh it's been ridiculous)
However walking on the ice here so much more than where I lived before has recently caused Toffee to lift is paws as they were super cold and musta been hurting, even Spruce who never gets cold was having a hard time, so when it got to be minus 20 and below we didn't go walking on the ice n snow...
I ended up buying natural boot, cream like Mushers use just this weekend, and I must say I was impressed and surprised the dogs walked on ice quite a bit and it was SUPER cold and windy... and we played on the beach lol, yet even afterwards they were still ok to walk back to the car on the ice covered field and parking lot.
SO I highly recommend it

So, no Shelties don't NEED coats, boots maybe but only if it gets REALLY cold, not sure how cold it gets in New Zealand
