Ticks

That's interesting Dr Mac about collars, does it depend on the type of tick? And does it administer as effectively for long coated dogs? We have the deadly paralysis tick in abundance - heading into the peak of tick season atm. Having shelties I'm paranoid when we go into tick areas - I double up on a spot on with a spray (different ingredient) if we go anywhere near the coast. In Australia spot-on seems the preferred method, often in conjunction with a collar or spray or tablet. I'm heading off for holiday next week so I'll be treating the dogs before we go.

There's something called the SKUDO ultrasonic device that is meant to repel ticks, you hang it from the dog/cat collar like a tag. Anyone tried it? I've heard raves about it but don't know anyone who has used it personally. Of course being ultrasonic there'd be no use using it on Deska, seeing as he has an ultrasonic bark collar - it would be like punishment

Thanks Dr. Mac! The neck and shoulders are definitely where I have been finding the ticks... interesting to note the different congregation points for fleas and ticks.

I've noticed the increase in ticks this year as well. Considering my job keeps me in the field the majority of the time, be it woods or old fields, I'm fortunate and surprised I've not yet pulled one off of myself.

So, from what I've just read on the collars- Seresto and Preventic, the amitraz in the Preventic looks to be contraindicated for cats-- I have three. All three routinely snuggle right up with Watson so, I'm guessing that would a bad choice. Seresto makes collars for cats as well as dogs.

It looks like the active ingredients are the same in the cat collar and the dog collar so Seresto should be safe for all four legged critters in our home?
