Tipped ears are different size

I took out Bailey's Japanese ear tape last night. I wanted to give her ears a week or two to breathe and then I'll tape them again.

I noticed that I taped one ear a little bit more than the other, so one ear hangs a little lower. Is there any way to correct this when I tape them again? Or is it too late to correct the size? I prefer the one that doesn't hang as low. I'll try and take a picture tonight and upload it. Any advice is much appreciated .

no expert here since I'm still getting help with Cranberry's ears. I'd say that if you are still taping and the ears are not set that it could probably be fixed. I'll have to leave it to the experts to tell you how though :wink2:

Not a problem...let them rest for a week, I wouldn't go any longer. I know it is a natural reaction to compensate and try to adjust the one you don't like. But don't do it! It will just make the ears look two different ways. Just set the ears exactly as you would like them to be. I do believe it works much better, doesn't slide or let loose so soon if you use a back piece in addition to the rolled piece of tape. The tape sticks much better to tape then to the skin.

thanks a lot Jenney! I'll tape them back up after the weekend and hopefully I can tip them evenly this time.

This is what I did with Sadie, at one point her ears were uneven too. Eventually they set and look perfect now.

The last time Ginny's ears came unglued I noticed that she had the same problem, I'd accidentally set one lower than the other. When I reglued them I just made sure that they both look the same. She's 7 months old now and I think I'll leave them glued for at least another month.

We continue to keep the ears fully braced until they are a year old. We only take them out for shows, and then right back in on Mondays. If you continue to keep them in for that amount of time I guarantee you will have beautiful ears for the life of your dog. It's just that people get tired of doing it, and think they will stay perfect after only several months of bracing. For the ideal ear set you have to brace them until the backskull is finished growing. I've done a lot of ears, my own dogs, and for others for over 21 years.

Bailey is 9 months old now. I've been taping them this long, so what's another 3 months? Yes, I will definitely tape them until she is a year old. I just have to make sure I tape them even this time.

If only you were here when I was dealing with Bacca's ears! :o:(
