To those feeding ACANA...

Emma was about 10 month when I transitioned her over to Eukanuba adult small breed. The little monkey has now decided she doesn't want to eat that, so I picked up Pro-Plan sensitive skin and stomach adult, with wild salmon as the first ingredient and I believe grain free (barley instead). I mixing both until I get her switched over and she hunts through the kibble for the salmon ones and literally spits the old formula out on the floor until she is almost finished. I debating waiting until she was a year but she was starting to put on a little bit too much weight for my liking, even on less than one cup a day. She has done much better on the adult formula. I use the Pro-Plan small breed (puppy) biscuits.

I have both the Grasslands and the Pacific formula Acana foods. I've been feeding my dogs the Grasslands and they like it. I haven't opened the Pacific formula yet, I can try it and see if they like it however all dogs are different, it doesn't mean your dog will prefer the Grasslands.

I do switch my dogs' food, they generally have one constant, either kibble or wet (I feed both) and then I switch the other. They seem to love it, it's a little more work for me but they jump and spin around for breakfast and dinner! They didn't do that before when I was just giving them kibble.

Hi! I have 3 years old Sheltie. I decide to buy her Acana, but do not know what to choose... And I need your opinion Grasslands or Wild Prairie?
What do you think?
Please! Thanks!

Well both of my dogs perfered the chicken formula to the lamb. The chicken is more popular and a lower price. So i would go with chicken and if you notice any itching from it (allergies from the chicken) then i try the lamb! either way you cant go wrong. you can even rotate!

Good dog food

Acana is made by the same producers as Orijen, if I remember correctly - I think its simply a lower protein version. My dogs were on Orijen for awhile, and I know that there are several people on the forum using Orijen currently.

There are other grain-free diets out there that you could try....Taste of the Wild, Now!, etc. Perhaps one of those would provide the fish oil that you are looking for, but with better taste.

Acana, Orijen, Merrick the grain free ones are all great foods. But I would stay away from Taste of the Wild it is made by Diamond way to many recalls! I feed Merrick Duck& Sweet potato and add fish oil to it! Has helped a lot for her dry skin and allergies my dog loves it!

So my girl will be 8 months right away, and i have only fed her ACANA pacifica (grain free fish formula) and her coat is amazing. It is fluffy like a pomeranian rather than coarse on the top of her back like most shelties are. And just shiny, thick and full for her age. I get many compliments and i know it's because i fed her only the best. :smile2: but I don't think she is crazy about the taste.. im not sure how to tell if she hates it because she will eat every other food other than her own if i let her but i know most dogs are like that haha. I want to switch to GRASSLANDS (red meat) formula but it dosnt have the high amount "nice coat" oils in it that pacifica has. Has anyone tried one or the other or both and can tell me what thier dogs perfered and did well on? Do your shelties on grasslands have a gorgoues coat?

In a word, YES!!! Mine love 'em all.

My Beau is on grain free Acana (Lamb) but, your right, they do make for nice coats, people tell me all the time that Beau' hair is so soft. I was actually thinking of switching him to the fish, but, I'm not sure I would like the fish smell :eek2:(I like my dog boy kisses)

Does anyone know what amt of fat is in acana Pacifica? Macs pancreas is acting up again so were back on fresh fish and chicken. I thought his acana pacific was good but it may have to much fat. Calories are pretty high too. But his coat is beautiful and I really don't think it's the dog food!!! Grrrrr
